The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help to find a 24-year-old woman who went missing on Monday near Nevada City.

Esmeralda Marie Pineda was last seen at a mining camp near the middle fork of the Yuba River and Sweetland Creek, about five miles northwest of Nevada City, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.

At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a black sweatshirt, floral-patterned leggings, tennis shoes, and carrying a black Swiss backpack.

“She is from Sacramento and may be trying to return to the area,” said Ashley Quadros, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.

Pineda is described as being 5-foot-8, weighing 169 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. She is considered at-risk, according to the statement.

The Sheriff’s Office and its search and rescue team are actively searching for her. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to contact the sheriff’s Regional Dispatch Center at 530-265-7880.
